by Ken Tuccio Have you ever been in the mood for pretzels, opened up your pantry, and only had crackers? Have you ever been in the mood for crackers, opened up your pantry, and only had pretzels? Well, if that’s a problem you regularly find yourself running into, the folks at Keebler Town House have a solution for you …
Flip Sides Pretzel Crackers. I’m not even sure how this is possible, but the elves at Keebler have created a snack that is a pretzel on one side, and a cracker on the other. Not only does this sound like the greatest snack innovation since Doritos Collisions, but it also sounds like the first step in the Keebler elf plan for world domination. First they mold pretzels and crackers together, next they take over the world. You heard it here first; those elves are up to something. To say this sounds like an interesting product is an understatement. I’m a guy who likes both pretzels and crackers, so the idea of having a product that combines the two within one munchable is insanely appealing. Frightening, but appealing. The side of the box shows the different options you have when eating Flip Sides …
You can dunk it, drizzle it, top it, and munch it. Four awesome options, and ironically also the same four actions I used to take on my girlfriends in college. Giggity, giggity. The back of the box has the Flip Sides tagline, which sounds eerily like something out of a B-grade horror movie …
Part Pretzel. Part Cracker. All Good. I could easily see the next sentence in that statement being “Willem Dafoe, starring in …”, because if there’s ever a movie about a cracker crossbreed, Willem Dafoe would have to be cast in the lead. When I tear open the box, and get my fist look at this cracker innovation, I feel as if I was transported into a dream world …
These are, indeed, pretzels and crackers baked together. This is the scariest example of morphing since the Tim Daly flick Dr. Jeckyll & Ms. Hyde, and as such I wouldn’t be surprised if eating these crackers turns me into an attractive female alter ego of myself. The smell that Flip Sides give off is amazing. I seriously want to grab a handful of them right now and toss them in my mouth, but I’m doing my best to keep myself composed. That’s a difficult thing to do, especially when I have a pretzel/cracker hybrid within arms reach, but I take great pride in having self-discipline. I finally calmed myself down and grabbed a few Flip Sides so that I could sample them in a professional and observational manner. I’ll be honest; they rocked. When eating a Flip Sides Pretzel Cracker, you get the perfect combination of cracker and pretzel, causing a VIP party in your mouth that only A-List celebrities would be invited to. I can easily see myself munching on these all day, and I am giving serious thought of adding these to my “must purchase” list of snacks and chips that I regularly buy on trips to the market. To say these things are awesome is underutilizing the word awesome; these things require some type of adjective that hasn’t even been created yet, something like giganthroplific. I don’t know what the proper definition for giganthroplific would actually be, but since the word is currently driving my Microsoft Word spell check crazy, I’m going to deem it a brand new phrase that specifically describes the awesome nature of Flip Sides Pretzel Crackers. Giganthroplific, someone go make a Wikipedia entry. There are not many products that I’d highly urge you to go out of your way to try, but these are one of them. It’s a testament to the world we live in that crackers like this are available. Past generations only dreamt of having crackers and pretzels housed together in one unique snack, but I’m proud to say that my generation made it a reality. When the history books are written, I’m firmly confident that the 21st century will be remembered for three things : Social Networking, 24 hour news, and Pretzel Crackers. God
bless innovation. |
